This page describes a model of an airliner made of plywood. The airplane model is designed to learn sawing with a fretsaw and other skills. Since the model is not difficult to make, it is suitable for beginners. The model airplane is not a flying one, but it can be used as a toy.

We cut parts of the airliner out of 4 mm thick plywood first. We find patterns of the parts in files that are pointed at by links in figure 1. We print the drawings and transfer the patterns to the plywood. A procedure is described in greater detail in the page Transferring Shapes of Parts to Plywood.

Figure 1: Parts of the Aircraft
It is written in brackets, how many parts of each pattern we need to cut out.
We cut all parts out of plywood as precisely as possible. We can find some tips to help us sawing in the page Using of a Fretsaw. Finally, we sand the parts to remove cutting marks.

Once we have cut the parts out, we start to glue them together. First, we attach both sides of the cabin 2 and walls 3, 4, 5 and 6 on the wing 2.
Figure 2: Assembling of the aircraft, step 1
While the glue is curing, the two engines can be assembled. The engine consists of the carrier 10, to which the sides 11 are attached.
Figure 3: Assembling of the aircraft, step 2
During the assembling of tail, we must pay attention to perpendicularity between rudder 7 and elevator 8. The elevator 8 should be attached in the slot in rudder 8 as symmetrically as possible.
Figure 4: Assembling of the aircraft, step 3
Once the glue is cured, we sand the cabin, engines and tail. Then the tail and aircraft nose 9 are attached to the cabin.
Figure 5: Assembling of the aircraft, step 4
We must wait a while for the glue to cure again. Then we turn the airplane model around to attach airplane engines. Care must be taken so that they are affixed symmetrically. Finally, we attach the wing tips 12.
Figure 6: Assembling of the aircraft, step 5
Now, the airplane has to be grinded and painted. The airliner model is now ready for flight.
